Work Unnecessary
No name, no meaning – Unnecessary Work
Performance – documentation in the form of photos, videos, installations 2012-13-14.
This is a performance that is constantly repeated, and in each repetition it takes on a new
form.
Artists use the traditional technique of knitting as concrete knowledge and ability, which
is put into an unusable function. In this process they relocate women’s traditional work in the context of contemporary art. In that way, they problematize not only art as a product,
but they are also critical of it and the values of their own work.
Form 3, is a performance performed in Berlin in 2014. Here, the production of a knitted piece is destroyed immediately after its creation.
In this part, the performance gets a destructive tone, which is a way of reacting in a situation of helplessness.
Form 2, is a performance performed in Belgrade in 2013 lasting 6 hours. The artists here
thematize their position through long-term motionless sitting and knitting without
communication with the audience or with each other.
Form 1, is a performance performed in Berlin in 2012. In it, the artists knit the same thin
thread from each other, which as a final product has no function. It was performed in a public space, without interrupting the continuity of work until it disturbed passers-by.
The artists thematize biographical aspects of their own lives: their own position in a new area, their characterization by gender, origin and the possibility of overcoming them.
