Affirmative provincial class

Affirmative provincial class 2013

Analysis of the current state of my society, economic and cultural crisis, system centralization, has led me to clear activist ideas. In a situation where National Museum of Belgrade is closed to the public for alrady 11 years, and the Museum of Contemporary Art 7 years, there is a question of need for art, artists and cultural workers. But with the vision that art changes every individual for the better, and that this will enhance system in whole, I am trying to parse the problems responding to smaller groups through art that will get to them, directly, to their close proximity.

Capitalist system has brought to alienation of people, lack of good quality free time spent, what made people lose the desire for  post-education and intellectual uprising. Elitist systems have indulged this area to high economic classes. That is way I believe that public urban spaces have to take over the role of educator, cultural media and field free of consumerist action. Fact that visiting museum/gallery is sometimes impossible, does not mean that every individual has no need for it, he/she is just  not  conscious of it yet and did not realize that it exist. Feelings of discomfort/ uncertainties is present in the audience at encounters with the works of contemporary visual tendency.

Artists, who are very serious about contemporary art practices, do and act but only in larger communities, but only in established centers of cultural events. Although most of them live in small communities did not formed scene to which they belong. With the clear objective of environment decentralization, I started a project “Affirmative provincial class” in my hometown with the artists Ana Krstić, Uroš Pavlović, Aleksandar Dimitrijević and art Groupe Rouge, who in this moment lives in small towns like me. They have resented in public space in Čačak/ Serbia performance, murals, installations, and after it we had discussion about contemporary art in small towns in Gallery Nadežda Petrović.
