Louvre lover

Solo exhibition “LOUVRE LOVER” by joechlTRAGSEILER

2018

The first part of the “Louvre project” was realized in December 2017. During a 25 days long trip joechlTRAGSEILER travelled from Vienna to Genoa, and continued their journey with a cruise liner through the Suez Canal and Qatar to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, where a new Louvre designed by architect Jean Nouvel was recently opened. In this 25 days long performance, the artists were questioning the relentless striving for gigantomania of the global museum enterprise.

In the exhibition “LOUVRE LOVER” the artist duo deconstructs the basic concept of the museum and transfers it into a work, oscillating between display, objects and event. With spatial objects that imply the name of the museum, the exhibition investigates the following questions: What is a museum of the new century? Are political, economic and social relations being negotiated within it? Where are the power relations? How to reflect instances of exclusion? By visualizing the brand Louvre, joechlTRAGSEILER symbolize their criticism of the global economic policy of cultural development and create a new utopia, in which they themselves play the role of self-presentation as the director or owner of the museum.
